And spare me the evil of my enemies from among the jinn and men! Then how could he remain in torments when he hopefully relies upon Thy past forbearance, compassion and mercy? Nor it is similar to the goodness and kindness Thou hast shown to those who profess Your Unity. Have I anyone except Thee from whom I can seek the dislodging of my evils and understanding of my problems? And by Your invincibility through which You overwhelm all things. And not to hasten me to punishment for what I have done in private:.

O Allah, verily I kumxil You with the asking of a submissive, abased and lowly man to show me forbearance, to have mercy on me. Bless Muhammad and his progeny.

My God and my Master! So by Your might, my Master and my protector, I swear sincerely, if You leave me with speech.

Who readily pleased, forgive one who owns nothing but supplication for Thou doest what Thou willest o’ Thou! And what You have foreordained concerning the everlasting home of those who stubbornly resist.


No such opinion is held of You! So I declare with certainty that were it not for what You have decreed concerning the chastisement of Your deniers. According to Allama Majlisi, Kumayl had attended an assembly in the Mosque at Basra which was addressed by Imam Ali in which the night of the 15th of Shaban was mentioned. Forgive me my such sins as would affront my continency O Allah!

And how can the guards of hell threaten him when he calls out to Thee?

This appeal, or invocation may be kumaill calling for blessings or evil. And after the sincerity of my confession and my supplication, humble before Your lordship? The Muhammad Trust, Who illuminateth those who duaa in bewilderment! And not to disgrace me through the hidden things You know of my secrets. And whom You have made, along with my bodily members, witness against me. Have I any but You from whom to ask removal of my affliction and regard for my affairs!

O You who gave rise to my creation, to the remembrance of me, to the nurture of me, to goodness toward me and to nourishment on me. And over hearts acknowledging Your Divinity through verification. Bestow upon me for the sake of Your kumaail given rise [to me] with generosity and Your previous goodness to me!

The Du’a al-Kumayl is specifically recited for “protecting against the evil of enemies, for opening the gate of one’s daily bread and for the forgiveness of sins.

Since it only occurs as a result of Your wrath, Your vengeance and Your anger. Other than Your acceptance of my excuse and Your entering me into the compass of Your mercy.

I beseech Thee by Thy mercy which encompasses all things And by Thy power by which Thou overcometh all things and submit to it all things and humble before it all things And by Thy might by which Thou hast conquered all things And by Thy majesty against which nothing can stand up.

And no transformer of any of my ugly acts into good acts but You. My Protector, so how should he remain in the chastisement, while he has hope for Your previous clemency? How then can I bear the retributions and the punishments of the hereafter which are enormous and of intensive sufferings, of prolonged period and perpetual duration, and which shall never be alleviated for those who deserve the same as those retributions will be the result of Thy wrath; and Thy punishment which neither the heavens nor the earth can withstand and bear!


My God and my Protector! I, therefore implore Thee by that power which Thou determineth and by the decree which Thou hast finalised and ordained whereby Thou hath prevailed upon whom. Forgive me my such sins as would hinder my supplication O Allah!

Or kunail should the Fire cause him pain while he expects Your bounty and mercy? And by the decision which You have determined and imposed and through which You have overcome him toward whom it has been put into. You art more generous than that You shouldst squander him whom You hast nurtured.

And every evil act which You have commanded the Noble Writers to record.

Thou hast imposed it, to bestow upon me this night and this very hour the forgiveness for all the transgressions that I have been guilty of, for all the sins that I have committed, for all the loathsome acts that I have kept secret and for all the evils done by me, secretly or openly, in concealment or outwardly and for every evil action that Thou hast ordered the two noble scribes to confirm whom Thou hast appointed to record all my actions and to be witnesses over me along with the limbs of my body, whilst Thou observeth over me besides them and wast witness to those acts concealed from them?

O’ Thou unto Whom I express my distress!
