The OE Output Enable pin is optional. The method ShiftByte only shifts the 8bits, and does not latch them to to the output pins.

Hello, you need to check the schematics of your board if this is possible at all. Don’t forget to add a ohm resistor in series to protect the LEDs from being overloaded. In this example you’ll add a second shift register, doubling the number of output pins you have while still using the same number of pins from the Arduino.

I want to change the pin 12 for another pin. Basically, the device has a serial input pin, two clock pins one to shift the serial data, and one to latch the data to the output pins, plus 8 output pins:. The logic table is what tells you that basically everything important happens on an up beat. This set up makes all of the output pins active and addressable all the time. This is the “parallel output” part, having all the pins do what you want them to do all at once.
This is in contrast to using the “asynchronous serial communication” of the Serial.

You can link multiple registers together to extend your output even more. It specifies the interfaces for the mandatory Latch, Data and Clock pins. I tried but not very sure how the ports need to be set. The blue wire is going from the serial out pin pin 9 of the first shift register to the serial data input pin 14 of datsaheet second register.
